Borgo Riccio, an Italian historic house for staying and for little charming events
At Borgo Riccio, in the wonderful, immersed in nature, Torchiara, hospitality is art joining the highest standard of comfort, technology and wellness, respecting the tradition of Cilento. The hostess is Angela Riccio, who was top manager in big corporations and, now, she is a passionate, curious and rich of ideas hospitality entrepreneur
In Cilento, on the threshold of the National Park – the biggest in Europe and UNESCO heritage – there’s a happy enclave of nature, art and history which is worth knowing, for the ones who hasn’t known it yet. It’s Torchiara, from Turris Clara (the eminent tower), a wonderful mediaeval town, a succession of perfectly preserved historical residences (14 in all), of ancient towers and typical houses of Cilento, included in a very beautiful natural context. Maybe a few people know that this town stands out because three Italian ministers were born here – Andrea Torre (senator of the realm), Sabato Visco e Vincenzo Visco –. From here a Greenway of 12 km begins, which brings straight to the heart of a green land characterized by breathtaking landscapes, just at 7 kilometers from the sea. A magical land where it looks like time has stopped and where life flows with a slow rhythm infinitely comfortable with a healthy and full lifestyle. Here, where Angela Riccio has her roots, in between olive trees, white figs and flowers of the Mediterranean woodlands, the top manager, former general manager of the Communication and Image area of the Fiera Milano from 1991 to 2006, is now enjoying a new life as hospitality entrepreneur, making her lifelong dream come true: Borgo Riccio, a historical residence, for bleisure staying and for small top-level event. In the panorama of made in Italy hospitality, Borgo Riccio is a unique gem in its sector: very popular abroad – as you can read on the reviews from every corner of the world on Tripadvisor – and award-winning in Italy (Premio Gist, Premio Excellent and Premio Principessa Sichelgaita) for being a virtuous example of a new way to render holiday and business meeting. «Borgo Riccio», as the entrepreneur explains, «is not a hotel, not even the classic bed&breakfast. It’s rather a location with unconventional charm which offers the guests an authentic experience of the region, according to a concept of slow holiday and of diffused hospitality, rediscovering the local Italian traditions and always looking for new sources of inspiration. Let’s not forget that Cilento is the land of philosophy, Mediterranean diet and the Scuola Medica Salernitana».
Distinctive feature: exclusivity In Borgo Riccio you can stay among comfort and services of a luxury hotel: the rooms are in all 14, divided between the two houses, the tower and the dependence “la Residenza”, but Riccio lets us know that there will be more rooms soon. There are also other rooms in two other houses in the town, which makes at least 50 rooms within 400 meters. There are a pool and, starting this year, a wellness zone – real flagship of the Borgo – with Jacuzzi, sauna, equipped gym with Technogym machines, exclusively bookable by each couple of guests. «At Borgo Riccio», the owner of the residence says, «we can also host meetings and workshops, and set up exhibitions, craft-shops of art and writing, thanking to cutting-edge technologies. Let’s not forget the excursions in the nearby area: to Caserta, Pompei, Paestum, in Costiera Amalfitana, in the wonderful costiera cilentana where there are Castellabate, Velia, Palinuro, and Marina di Camerota to the mediaeval town of Torchiara. Among the experiences of full immersion in the region that we propose to our guests there are also the harvesting of olives and the discovery of the traditional breakfast in Cilento, based on DOC white figs, torta casereccia, burrata, mozzarella di bufala and ricotta di bufala, jams made with the fruits of our trees and the acquasale, a rock bread made by us with wheat dipped in extra virgin olive oil, with tomato, salt and oregano».
A constantly evolving hotbed of hospitality and creativity Borgo Riccio is indeed a dynamic reality, in progress, able to constantly renew itself, just like her creator, it uses to assault life with intelligence, strength and passion, but also with a right amount of lightness and curiosity, which are crucial to not be anchored to the past. «I always say that, after ten years, it’s time to change, without ever turning the back, or taking for granted, what you have done», tells us Angela Riccio. It is no coincidence that her motto is “metabolize the past, live the present and plan the future”, this philosophy has found its complete and fitting expression at Borgo Riccio: «I put to good use my past experience here, restoring some family estate and devoting myself to the promotion of Cilento, the land of my family. I changed my profession and lifestyle, however, I never stopped my relationship with Milan, where I teach currently Ethics of Communication at the Università telematica E-campus».
The three souls of Borgo Riccio At Borgo Riccio the three souls of the entrepreneur live in harmony, starting with her love for the architecture, «At first», she says, «I didn’t have a designer, so I had to brush up my degree in architecture, giving me the chance to make my relais very personal. At Borgo Riccio you can also see her attention for the environment – she has run the magazine of environmental sciences of CNR Acqua e Aria for years, cooperating with il Sole 24ore – and her love for the communication: beyond being manager of Fiera Milano – assisting to its change from local board to international fair of Milan, up to the stock exchange listing and the creation of the Portello and of the Polo Esterno Europeo – Riccio was also among the four women entrepreneurs of the Augusta, working as chief of the press office, and as assistant of the general manager of Rai from 2004 till 2006, and as assistant of the CEO of Simest (società italiana per le imprese all’estero) until 2010.
Projects and events at the Borgo The global level initiatives, hosted at Borgo Riccio, are numerous and always exciting, such as “Artist in Residence”, with the Academia of Wien, “Cinema Projects Development”, with the Università Cattolica of Milan, “All Fun”, with the European Union, “Story Riders” and “Discesa al Sud”, with the Circolo dell’Unione e del Wist. «Last year», Riccio lets us know, «we hosted the writer Bobette Buster, the American screenplay guru, and we carried out cultural events such as the permanent Neapolitan presepe, according to the 18thcentury tradition of presepe, which has become a great attraction. In the future, we are planning events for vegan groups, furthermore, next spring we are hosting a group of artists from the United States to whom we will propose an experience following the Grand Tour.
