Ecotourism and archaeological tourism itineraries in Sardinia: a challenge for Mice
Geo mineral parks, excursions in greeneries and archaeological sites: this is the offer of ecotourism and archaeological tourism in Sardinia, a winning mix to focus on for the future of the island
A necessary step for the Sardinian economy future, which is largely based on tourism, is to reach an agreement between the defence of environment and the development of infrastructures for a sustainable but constant growth of tourist-hotel industry. The real bet is, then, aiming at the development of ecotourism and archaeological tourism in Sardinia, not only by addressing private customers, but also the Mice sector, with particular attention to élite and niche events. The locations, that we are going to analyse, are particularly suitable for these kind of events.

Starting from the North, at a stride from Sassari coast, we find an authentic naturalistic jewel: the Asinara. Since 1997 this island is safeguarded (above and beneath the sea) by a National Park and it may be discovered thanks to organised excursions, in sea and on land, into a completely green key by Futurismo Asinara.
Then, we continue a little more to the East, to explore the Gallura, that is more unusual: in the hinterland, in fact, you can make a real travel through time. Between the countryside and the hills, that surround Aggius, historical village, it’s possible to admire ancient nuraghes. The most famous is perhaps the Nuraghe Izzana: it dates to the second millennium b.C. and it’s one of the biggest and the best preserved of the whole island. It can be also reached on foot thanks to enthralling trekking routes through nature.
From the North we pass to the centre of Sardinia to discover the Giara di Gesturi, a basaltic plateau that is an unique in the world Eden of flora and fauna. For this reason, it’s also nicknamed “Island within the Island”, for its unique characteristics, the most relevant among which is the presence, in a wild state, of the famous Giara little horses. On the park website it’s possible to book excursions and guided tours, even for organised groups.

Remaining in the central part of Sardinia, ecotourism lovers find another jewel: it’s the Geo Mineral, Historical and Environmental Park of the Sardinia, the first Geo Mineral Park in the world. It brings together eight different areas which nowadays constitute an ecological treasure to preserve, both on the seashore and in the hinterland.
The South of the Sardinia may instead boast the application of the “best practices”, a set of “green” actions and procedures that are recognised and certified by the international organisation GSTC (acronym of Global Sustainable Tourism Council). Merit of this recognition goes to the organisations and the municipalities of the area, but it also depends on the presence in territory of some of the most fascinating naturalistic sites of the entire island. A first example is the Protected Area of Capo Carbonara in Villasimius, where you may admire flooded sceneries coloured by the yellow of sea daisies and the red of gorgonians and where it’s possible to meet herds of Mediterranean barracudas. Other examples are the Marine Archaeological Area of Nora, in which ancient ruins of Phoenicians and Romans alternate with enchanting beaches, and the Area of Chia and Teulada Dunes, that is practicable also with suggestive horseback excursions.
Furthermore, for those who don’t want to give up, even during a journey/business event, the idea of a break on the seashore, here’s the list of the 10 most beautiful beaches of the Sardinia> Read more
