Innovative thinking at the heart of IBTM World2018
IBTM on 27 September announced Duncan Wardle, one of the primary creative forces behind The Walt Disney Company, as the first of three exciting speakers lined up for IBTM World 2018. Duncan’s session leads the ‘innovation, technology and creativity stream’ of the Knowledge Programme and will kick-off the schedule on Day 2. Titled Think Different, Duncan will draw on his 25-year career with The Walt Disney Company, and his experience leading a team of creative ideation consultants, to show how leveraging creative thinking can generate far reaching and unexpected business results. Duncan is now an independent Innovation Consultant, working with companies such as Coca Cola, Ford and Johnson & Johnson.
Shane Hannam, Portfolio Director, IBTM, comments: “We’re delighted to announce our first keynote speaker for IBTM World 2018. We look to inspire people with fresh-thinking from outside of the industry, and Duncan really epitomises this. He will give real life examples from his time at Disney, including sharing a toolkit to inspire a different way of thinking to drive change in the culture of a business – something that will be of direct benefit to our customers.”
Hannam continued: “We’ve got a really exciting programme lined up for IBTM World this year. The event is centred around the theme of technology and how it can enhance every aspect of producing great events – from enabling creativity to analysing and understanding industry trends to helping us to create better, more useful connections. We’re looking forward to announcing more updates in due course.”
Dex Torricke-Barton as second keynote speaker
IBTM also announced Dex Torricke-Barton, former Head of Communications at SpaceX, Executive Communications Manager at Facebook, and Executive at Google, as the second of three exciting keynote speakers.
Dex’s session will kick-off the schedule on Day 3. Titled How technology will transform the meetings and events industry, Dex will take audiences into Facebook’s boardroom, Elon Musk’s open-concept cubicle, the famed Google plex, and finally to the UN itself to share his insights.
He will share his experience working for some of the world’s most innovative and technology-driven brands and evaluate the emergence of macro societal trends, including the rise of globalization and nationalism, as well as the development of specific technologies including virtual reality and live-streaming, to forecast which technologies will take hold and how they will alter the meetings sector, work, and business operations permanently.
Dex led executive communications at Facebook and served as Mark Zuckerberg’s personal speechwriter. He is currently writing a book examining the impact of technology in solving social divides around the world.
Hannam, comments: “I am delighted that Dex is joining us to share knowledge gleaned from his incredible career working alongside some of the world’s most dynamic and innovative business leaders. As technology continues to impact every aspect of our industry, this session is a great opportunity to explore and understand the potential implications of some of the transformational innovations ahead.”
Multi-award-winning millennial tech entrepreneur Charlotte Pearce, the third keynote speaker
26-year old Charlotte, who has been tipped as ‘one to watch’ by Richard Branson, will draw on her background as CEO and founder of innovative technology platform, Inkpact, to present her session. Titled Humans of Business; why connection matters, Charlotte will explore methods in which businesses can connect to their customers in more thoughtful and personal ways. Named in Forbes’ 30 under 30 and The Maserati 100, Charlotte founded Inkpact three years ago to allow companies to embed thought fulness into their marketing strategies at scale. Inkpact recently created an app to bring humans and technology closer together by allowing email campaigns to be transcribed by hand into beautiful handwritten letters with the help of community freelance creatives The Scribe Tribe. IBTM World 2018 is centred around the theme of technology and how it can enhance every aspect of producing great events, and Charlotte’s session will form a key part of this year’s ‘innovation, technology and creativity’ stream of the Knowledge Programme, kicking-off the schedule on Day one. Hannam comments: “We are delighted to announce Charlotte as part of our trio of exciting keynotes for IBTM World 2018. Charlotte is an inspirational role model with a strong message to share about prioritising authentic human connections in business; a message that is relevant to our clients and everyone in business today. We are hugely proud of our Knowledge Programme this year, which features an additional keynote speaker, as well as experts from both within as well as outside of our industry, all designed to keep our attendees at the cutting edge of developments within the industry.”
The programme, in the ACS Knowledge Village, covers eight topical content themes all aimed at inspiring and educating on the latest industry issues and hot topics so that delegates leave motivated to apply learnings to their own events. As well as innovation, technology and creativity, content falls under the following streams; industry trends; engagement and experiences; safety and security; sustainability and CSR; professional development, recruitment and wellbeing; business development and strategy; and marketing and digital.
